Heavy traffic jam prompted the meeting to start a bit late than usual. TM Yap took this opportunity to coach the new members for their ice breaker speech. TM Kannan was the acting president. He brilliantly instilled the sense of peacefulness among the members and the meeting environment in his opening address as follow:
Peacefulness is an inner sense of calm – it comes from becoming still – in order to reflect and meditate on our inner wisdom and receive answers.
A peaceful heart is one that is free from worry and trouble. It’s becoming quiet so we can look at things quietly to clearly understand them and thus come up with creative solutions. It is learning to live in the present.
Freedom from desire leads to inner peace.- Lao Tse
He who lives in harmony with himself lives in harmony with the world. – Marcus Aurelius
All these clearly define the meaning of the word, PEACE.
Toastmaster of the evening, TM Arul, took over and briefed all about Toastmasters as there was a guest. During the table topic session, various topics were dished out, making it a point for all to participate except for the 3 assignment speakers. Even, the guest, a lecturer, spoke on our education system. Impromptu humor-masters were TM Yap and TM Kannan.
The assignment speakers who spoke off the cuff for their ice-breaker speeches were Vicki, Pei Lim and Jen Li. They were very good and spoke exceptionally well. We are so proud to have them as members. Finally, our GE TM Saba wrapped up the meeting with some very good evaluation helped by Ah Counter Vicki and Timekeeper Chloe. Probably Pei Lim was the grammarian. Speech evaluators were Saba, Arul and Yap.
