Double Update!

Sorry for the hiatus! It has been a hectic month and now that I’m free, it’s time for me to make up for the last 2 meeting updates.

24th April 2012: Be Inspired

Another change in our agenda! Oh, I love these changes. It brings us excitement and anxiety and surprises me all the time by how I enjoy them. Then it’ll leave me anticipating for more.

Once again taking off Humour Session, we had a Debate Session. It’s almost like a table topic, but it gives you a little time to do a little preparation. The topic will be given and the debators will be chosen on the spot. The debator for the topic will start, and was given 5 minutes to convince the crowd and the evaluator. Followed by the debator against the topic.

These are the respective debators on a certain topic:

TM Yap and TM Manuel – Technology makes relationship with children grow further apart

TM Amanda and TM Mani – Male is stronger than female

TM Arul and TM Jen-Li – Money is more important than love

It went pretty well, since every debator used the time given to them efficiently to express their thoughts. Despite that TM Yap’s misunderstanding of the topic, he managed to give a good speech!

15th May 2012: You’ve Got What It Takes

A little mistake by the EXCO, we couldn’t have the meeting in the usual venue. Nevertheless, we carried on our meeting with the same enthusiasm. TM Sabariah surprised us after such a long hiatus by showing up, with TWO guests! It was such a pleasure to have her back. Although she hasn’t been here a while, her speaking skills wasn’t rusty at all!

We hope to see you again TM Sabariah!

Moving on, our new members, TM Kousalya and TM Mark and TM Manuel did their first project speech – Ice Breaker. I’m sure after their speeches, we all know to be smart not to cross TM Kousalya , otherwise her brother will come for us. We also now know that TM Mark aspire to be a successful entrepreneur, and also, we would have never fathom that TM Manuel was once a marine.

Ah, what a productive meeting!

15th May 2012: You got what It takes.

Everyone who’s having exams or job interviews or presentations, YOU HAVE GOT WHAT IT TAKES!!

Special moral support from the president!

24th April 2012: Be Inspired

First, it’s important to know the meaning of inspire. From the dictionary, it meant “Fill (someone) with the urge or ability to do or feel something, esp. to do something creative

Of course, it has to be something you have interest in, and we all have different interests. Usually, inspiration can be found in the most random source. It is not necessarily from a person. It could be an object, an incident, a scenery, your pet, or even your homework.

Last night, I was viewing a friend’s blog, and every post she uploaded was as interesting as the last and I never get bored. I wonder if I could do the same? Thus I am inspired to change my style a little, bit by bit every update, so every post seems like something new.

How about you? Are you inspired?

10th April 2012: Passion and Pursuit

The meeting carried out smoothly as usual. Due to school holidays, a few of our members were unable to turn up. However, TM Zahira surprised us by turning up after a few months of hiatus. It’s always good to see the senior members showing up in the midst of their busy lives.

TM Arul gave the members a tough time during table topics session. It was a real challenge to even understand the title! Table topics is just a matter of practice, and it’ll come to you as natural as breathing!

TM Victoria and TM Li Ann both did their project speeches. Given the convenience of a projector, they both presented powerpoints, which brought a lot more attention from the audience.

10th April 2012: Passion and Pursuit.

So guys, do you have a passion?

Don’t deny having any because I’m sure all of you has one. Since having a passion for something is undeniable, but do you do anything to pursue it? Or have you pursued it already?

27th March 2012: My Earth, My Home.

I would say I was never more proud of the club. (“I” am representing the club)

First, it was so delightful to see our brand new members being so proactive, picking up roles on their first official meetings. TM Serene took up the Time Keeper role, TM Amanda the Grammarian and TM Kousyala the AH Counter.

Secondly, it was even more delightful that we had 3 surprise guests turned up this meeting. We didn’t expect any. However, 3 turned up! Thank you for joining us Mr. Manuel, Ezam and Fatimah! They were lucky too, because we chose to customize our meeting that day.

We took Humour Session off the agenda, and replaced it with an Earth Hour Session. Although the name of the event was irrelevant to the actual activity, we had a great time playing Charades . We pick out a lady and a gentleman, give both of them a message and they have to convey it to the audience – without speaking.

And of course, something that cannot be missed – TM Syafique’s first project speech. It was an ice breaker speech, so it’s basically about himself. Personally, this blogger thinks that the ice breaker speech is the best way to introduce yourself to the club.

Special thanks to TM Syafique, who has been promoting the club through his blog and twitter, which is actually the VPPR(yours truly)’s job. This blogger feels a tad bit embarrassed about it. It doesn’t matter who does the promoting as long as it helps the club, right?

If any of you readers are interested to see his blog, or his twitter, here it is:

Before I wrap up, thank you to the guests who showed up and gave us an opportunity to show you what Toastmasters is all about! I hope we made you feel comfortable and we’ll always welcome your presence again!

27th March 2012: My Earth, My Home.

Whether you’re studying or working, after a hectic day, we will always to back to that one place where we feel the most comfortable at – home.

If there’s one thing you care the most about, it would be your home, and we should place the same affection for the environment, mother earth. We depend on earth, and it is home for all mankind.

The objective of the theme this meeting is to acknowledge Earth Hour, which is actually on 31st of March this year. Since there’s no meeting on the actual day, we will be celebrating it in advance!

Dear members, if you care about the Earth, join us!

PS: To ensure a successful meeting, let’s all be punctual in every meeting!
